Learning Communities
Classes, or Learning Communities at the Cathedral are ways to be introduced to spiritual topics led by experienced teachers or pastors. Learning Communities are offered on Sunday mornings and on Wednesday evenings and offer opportunities to grow theologically as well as examine specific issues and practices related to faith.
TUESDAYS
1 Corinthians: A Community in Conflict
9:30-11am beginning March 13th (6 weeks)
Emmaus Center
Led by Pastor Ric Shewell
We often idealize the first communities of Christians. After all, these small communities of Jesus followers grew at an incredible rate and spread the Gospel across the world, even in the face of death and persecution! But when we take a closer look, we find that these early Christians were far from perfect, struggling with greed, sexual immorality, in-fighting, taking each other to court, and much more! Join us in a study of 1 Corinthians as we see how the Gospel addresses some of the dysfunctions of the early church, and even transforms this community in conflict into a group of disciples that changes the world! We might even draw some analogies between their struggles and ours!

Beginning Wed. Feb 8th

Bill Swartley
Have you ever tried to read the entire Bible – cover to cover – but got bogged down somewhere in the Old Testament? The Bible study called, The Essential 100 (E100) is a selected list of short Bible passages – 50 from the Old Testament and 50 from the New Testamen. Most are about 1-2 chapters in length, just the right amount for a busy person to read in a few minutes. The readings cover all major types of biblical writing, including the Historical Books, Peotry and Wiesdom, the Prophets, the Gospels, Acts, the Epistles and Revelation. They’re organized in such a way so that you can easily get the big picture of the Bible and an overview of the Bible’s message.
Women of the Bible
Wednesdays begins Oct. 12th (all year)
9:30-11:30am
Olivet Room
This group explores different ways of reading the stories about women in the Bible, with the overarching goals of deepening our understanding and enriching our lives of faith. We will begin our study with a focus on the Old Testament, using the video series: “Uppity Women of the Bible” with Dr. Lisa Wolfe. We will then move into the New Testament, examining specific followers, friends and family members of Jesus including: Mary and Martha; Mary, Mother of Jesus; Mary Magdalene; and the unnamed woman who anoints Jesus. There will be very limited preparation needed for meetings. Please note that although we will be focusing on the women of the Bible in our study, the group welcomes men! It is not a “women’s group.” For more information contact Sue Saldin ssaldin@aol.com 344-2328
